Protecting the Intestines in Dogs

The mucosal layer of the intestines is not just a passive structure; it is an active and essential component in protecting the body. Its main function is to prevent bacteria or other foreign bodies that enter the digestive system from becoming systemic and causing havoc on health.

However, this vital defense can be compromised by several factors. Some causes of digestive disorders can include the presence of pathogenic bacteria, an inadequate diet, food allergies, trauma, medications, and various diseases.

When the intestinal barrier is compromised, health problems can arise for pets, from digestive discomfort to serious ailments. These include:

Increased vulnerability to infections: Pathogen invasion can lead to gastrointestinal infections, causing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and general discomfort.

Nutritional absorption problems: Damaged mucosal layer can affect proper nutrient absorption, resulting in nutritional deficiencies.

Chronic inflammation: Continuous irritation of the intestine can trigger chronic inflammation, which, in turn, can contribute to long-term gastrointestinal disorders.
